President’s Message

Members of Barranca Mesa Pool,

The board is busy getting ready for this upcoming summer. Staff have been hired, work parties are being
planned, and we are looking forward to another good year! We are brainstorming ways to work with the school calendar changes (nearly all of our guards are high school students) and we will communicate as well as we can about the pool's hours, season dates, etc. A soft opening is being planned before Memorial Day weekend, so please check our Facebook page for news on that soon.

There are positions on the board available for anyone interested in helping to make this pool vibrant and viable for years to come. Please spread the word about our pool, and help to increase our membership with all of your friends!

As always, thanks for your continued support and dedication to your community pool. See you at the pool soon!

Jeremy
President, BMPA

Operations Manager message

From the operations side, Barranca Mesa Pool is getting ready for the 2024 season. We have no major concerns to address, but there is always lots of work to be done to de-winterize the pool and prepare for summer. Please attend at least one of our two work parties if possible. We depend heavily on our membership to make these successful. It’s always a great time to get to know the pool board, the pool staff, and to meet other pool members. In addition, it is a great time to get to know your pool and, if interested, to become more active in ensuring we have a well operating pool for many more years to come. We look forward to seeing you all this season!

We need more volunteer support!

Please seriously consider finding a way to give some time to help support the maintenance of our pool. Consider relieving one of our board members. Join the gardening or maintenance effort, or become snack bar coordinator. We cannot afford to hire all the maintenance to be done, while we know our membership is talented and capable!

We are going to be creating a calendar linked to the website where tasks are listed. Come at your convenience in short blocks of time.

Membership’s Message

After watching Oppenheimer, the movie, I have become increasingly interested in our town’s history. What has intrigued me recently is the history of our government housing, including the architecture and the social ties created from those rotating housing assignments. The founders of our pool likewise altered our summer entertainment and the social history of our town, when they created our pool in 1968 (check out our webpage for a bit of BMPA history). Indeed, the personal investment was high ($525), but they created our membership model that is lasting to this day. With Spring, it’s time to continue your part of that tradition with the payment of your annual assessment. I thank you for doing so.

Please encourage your friends to join. Our pool pays all our bills from our membership assessments, and there is nothing left in the coffers thereafter. We need new members to continue to pay those bills! Please help us continue and nourish our pool’s history by bringing-in those new members. We have lowered the membership buy-in to pre-COVID prices ($100)- now is the time! When you recruit new members please send me a message, I want to recognize your work for the pool.

Assessment and fees for 2024:

  • $550 annual assessment by 30 April ($450 base plus $75 work deposit)

  • $575 annual assessment after 1 May ($475 base plus $75 work deposit)

  • $50 to rent a membership from the pool

  • $100 to purchase a new membership from the pool

  • Each membership has 15 guest passes. Bringing more guests? $5 per guest when you check in at the front desk.

Please note: BMPA needs to have all forms/waivers with your assessment each year. Download and print them from our website to mail in with a check to P.O. Box 4, Los Alamos NM 87544 or complete it all online here.

As for the work deposit, we plan to hold the first Spring work party on April 27th and a second work party on May 5th. Each work party begins at 8:00 a.m. and lasts for three to four hours. It’s a great opportunity to learn how the pool operates, work alongside other members, as well as earn your work deposit back. Also, we will be collecting forms/ checks and assisting with membership purchase at the work parties.
